Softball Recap: Otter Valley Otters vs. Bellows Falls Terriers

After flying high against Rutland on Thursday, Otter Valley came back down to earth. The Otters fell just short of the Bellows Falls Terriers by a score of 5-4 on Tuesday. The Otters were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Terriers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Sophie Parker put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). Parker was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Parker is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, Michelle Hendee made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Kaylee Maloy also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Otter Valley's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-2. As for Bellows Falls, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Otter Valley will square off against Mt. Abraham at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Bellows Falls, they will venture away from home to take on Brattleboro at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
