Softball Recap: Kennard-Dale's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Kennard-Dale came tearing into Wednesday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.1 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Eastern York Golden Knights a 1-0 shutout. The one-run effort marked the Rams' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Taryn Ashenfelter was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double.

Ashenfelter wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Taylor Rinaudo, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that Rinaudo hit this season.

Kennard-Dale's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Eastern York, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Kennard-Dale is set to take on their familiar foe Susquehannock at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Rams 2.7, the Warriors 4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Eastern York will challenge rival Dover at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
