Softball Recap: Santa Fe Wins Going Away Against Manzano

Eight must be Santa Fe's lucky number: they beat Manzano with that score not once but twice on Monday. The Demons blew past the Monarchs 8-2. The Demons haven't had any issues with the Monarchs recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Leah Gutierrez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up 14 Ks.

On the hitting side, A'Mya Jeselink was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Prada, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Santa Fe always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Manzano only posted an OBP of .250.

Santa Fe's win bumped their record up to 10-12. As for Manzano, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-17.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Santa Fe will venture away from home to face off against La Cueva at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Bears will roll in looking for their 14th straight victory, something the Demons surely won't give up without a fight. As for Manzano, they will square off against Eldorado at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Golden Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.81 runs per game on average), something the Monarchs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
