West Point-Beemer extends road losing streak to seven

The West Point-Beemer Cadets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They took a 53-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Clarkson/Leigh. West Point-Beemer lost against Clarkson/Leigh in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 52-37 score last time.

West Point-Beemer's loss came despite strong showings from Allie Kaup and Mia Hunke. Kaup dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds, while Hunke scored 12 points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that Kaup pulled down eight or more rebounds. Nevaeh Weborg was another key contributor, scoring ten points.

Even though they lost, West Point-Beemer were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Clarkson/Leigh was led to victory by Brynn Settje and Chloe Hanel. Settje scored 14 points along with eight rebounds, while Hanel scored 17 points along with six steals. The match was Hanel's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ava Kasik, who scored seven points.

West Point-Beemer's defeat was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-5. As for Clarkson/Leigh, the win got them back to even at 3-3.

West Point-Beemer will be home for the holidays to greet Douglas County West at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Clarkson/Leigh, they will head out on the road to face off against Howells-Dodge at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nebraska (Howells-Dodge is ranked 144th, while Clarkson/Leigh is ranked 152nd).
