Football Recap: Coronado Starts Season with Win Against Palmer

Coronado had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Palmer Terrors 41-3. That's more bragging rights for the Cougars, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Coronado to victory, but perhaps none more so than Thomas Buckmiller, who threw for 310 yards and four TDs while completing 78.3% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave Buckmiller a new career-high in passer rating (159). Coronado's leading receiver Lyrik Smith was Buckmiller's top target yet again, picking up 162 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Coronado's run defense was locked in: Palmer could only muster 2.4 yards per carry. The team can thank Luciano Taraborelli for the heroic effort on defense: he. Coronado didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged six.

Coronado's defense also made the game a nightmare for Jaiden Vills., racking up 10.5 sacks. Josh Lysne led the group effort, picking up three of those sacks all by himself.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coronado will host Lewis-Palmer at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Palmer, they will be playing at home against Sierra at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
