Basketball Recap: Elyria Comes Up Short

If Elyria was feeling good fresh off their 77-56 takedown of Avon Lake last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Elyria Pioneers took a 60-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Steele Comets. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Pioneers came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 112th, while the Comets are ranked 228th).

When it comes to explaining why Elyria lost on Friday, don't look at Jayden Crutcher. Despite the final result, he went 7 for 17 en route to 19 points. Crutcher's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Cam Bell was another key player, putting up six points and seven boards.
