Baseball Game Preview: Deep Run Wildcats vs. Mechanicsville Mustangs

The Deep Run Wildcats will head out on the road to take on the Mechanicsville Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Deep Run 2.2, Mechanicsville 1.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Deep Run is headed into the contest having just suffered their closest loss since April 16, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of Freeman by a score of 5-3.

Deep Run saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Henry Jennings, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Ben Arroyo also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Mechanicsville had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.2 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Monday. They blew past the Springers 16-0. That looming 16-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Mustangs yet this season.

Deep Run's defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Mechanicsville, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.

Deep Run came out on top in a nail-biter against Mechanicsville in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
