Baseball Recap: Weld Central Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Weld Central waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Aurora Central Trojans as they made off with a 13-3 win. That's more bragging rights for the Rebels, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Lucas Johann made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ross Phelps, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Andruw Prince, who scored a run and stole Three bases.

Weld Central's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Aurora Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Coming up, Weld Central will head out to face off against Prospect Ridge Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Aurora Central, they will host Rangeview at 4:00 p.m. on March 25th.
