Preview: Colleton County Cougars vs. Fort Dorchester Patriots

Colleton County is 0-4 against Fort Dorchester since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Colleton County Cougars will be home for the holidays to greet the Fort Dorchester Patriots at 8:00 p.m. Colleton County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Fort Dorchester likes a good challenge.

Colleton County scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They blew past Lowcountry Leadership, posting a 78-28 victory at home. Colleton County might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won four matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Colleton County can attribute much of their success to Da?veon Varner, who scored 11 points along with eight steals, and Mykeem Gant, who scored 15 points along with four steals. The match was Varner's third in a row with at least ten points. Melvin Powell was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.

Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Fort Dorchester's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 44-32 to Goose Creek. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Fort Dorchester has scored all season.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Cazz Williams, who scored seven points along with six rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Washington, who scored three points along with six rebounds.

Colleton County's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Fort Dorchester, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-2.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Colleton County have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 29.9 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Fort Dorchester, though, as they've been averaging only 31.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Colleton County came up short against Fort Dorchester in their previous meeting two weeks ago, falling 56-50. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Williams, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Now that Colleton County knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
