Baseball Game Preview: Norco Cougars vs. Los Osos Grizzlies

The Norco Cougars will square off against the Los Osos Grizzlies at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The timing isn't great for Norco: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Los Osos has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Norco turned things around against Arlington on Tuesday. They never let the Lions get on the board and left with a 1-0 win.

Trent Schlim looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

On the hitting side, Norco's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kevin Leon, who went 1-for-2 with one double. That double was Leon's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Los Osos faced Santa Margarita in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Los Osos came out on top against Santa Margarita by a score of 5-1.

Gavin Loeb-Keene tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Joshua Chairez, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Los Osos' win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Norco, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6.

Everything went Norco's way against Los Osos in their previous meeting back in February of 2020, as Norco made off with an 11-3 win. Will Norco repeat their success, or does Los Osos has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
