Baseball Recap: Spackenkill Spartans vs. Chester Hambletonians

Spackenkill had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They skirted past the Chester Hambletonians 14-13. Spackenkill's victory was all the more impressive since Chester was averaging only 3.45 runs allowed on the season.

Dan Collins was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off one hit. Collins has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive pitching appearances. Collins was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5.

In other batting news, Dylan Boenig was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run. Bryan Hoyt was another key contributor, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

The win made it two in a row for Spackenkill and bumps their season record up to 16-4. As for Chester, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-5.

Spackenkill will square off against Croton-Harmon at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. The pair have allowed few runs on average, (Spackenkill: 3.5, Croton-Harmon: 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. Chester does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
