DeSoto prepares to host a special TOC 2015-16 ceremony where the boys basketball team will be nationally recognized by MaxPreps.
MaxPreps is pleased to announce that the
DeSoto (De Soto, Texas) Eagles have officially been named to the 11th Annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard, which is in its 10th year honoring boys basketball.
This is one of the most prestigious team awards in all of high school sports and it is an exclusive honor reserved for the top 100 teams nationwide. In order to be eligible, a team must win a state championship and be highly ranked in the MaxPreps National Rankings. For basketball, only 20 of the country's best are invited and with over 40,000 competing varsity teams. This puts the Eagles ahead of 99.9 percent of their opponents!
On Saturday, Mar. 12 the DeSoto Eagles stunned previously undefeated and No. 1-ranked Atascocita with a dominating 73-54 win for the
6A state championship. The 2016 UIL state title is the first since 2009 and third overall for the DeSoto boys basketball program.
The state final game started off with a back-and-forth battle between the two Eagle squads. That was until DeSoto unleashed on Atascocita in the second quarter and turned a 15-15 tie into a 33-15 halftime lead after an 18-0 run. Led by Marques Bolden and Tristen Wallace, DeSoto used the cushion and maintained a double-digit lead through the fourth quarter to lead the team to the overwhelming state championship victory.
The 6A state champions finished their season ranked No. 5 in the nation, No. 1 in Texas, No. 1 in 6A and No. 1 in Region 1. The Eagles also finished ranked No. 13 in the MaxPreps
Xcellent 25 rankings.
These incredible season achievements have earned the DeSoto Eagles an invitation to the 11th Annual Tour of Champions.
Please join us as we celebrate with the boys basketball team, coaching staff, students and fans on Friday, Apr. 22 at 2 p.m. during a sports assembly in the auditorium.
