Baseball Recap: Dunellen Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Dunellen ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Henry Hudson Admirals. For the Destroyers, this counts as revenge for the 4-1 victory the Admirals walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Cole Mayer spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mark Stein, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Dunellen and bumps their season record up to 11-6. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for Henry Hudson, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dunellen will venture away from home to challenge Roselle Park at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.25 runs per game on average), something the Destroyers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Henry Hudson, they are taking a road trip to face off against Bound Brook at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
