Emma Byers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lara Bulger, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Bailey Mickle, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
Bulger wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Bedford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. Bedford is a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Bishop McCort got themselves on the board against Greater Johnstown on Monday, but Greater Johnstown never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 10-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Crushers in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won six in a row.
Lariah Myers was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Myers was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Bishop McCort let Kalina Bailey and Hannah Pfeil run wild. Bailey scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3, while Pfeil scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Kylie Durst was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
The win got Bedford back to even at 3-3. As for Bishop McCort, their record now sits at 1-0.
Everything went Bedford's way against Bishop McCort when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Bedford made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bedford since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
