Baseball Game Preview: Highlands Bluebirds vs. Simon Kenton Pioneers

Highlands and Simon Kenton are an even 4-4-2 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Bluebirds will head out on the road to square off against the Pioneers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Highlands' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Simon Kenton's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Highlands is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Cincinnati Trailblazers HomeSchool just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Wednesday. They came up short against the Trailblazers, falling 8-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Bluebirds have suffered since March 26, 2024.

Highlands got a good showing from Iain Carner, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Carner has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Highlands saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooks Hendrix, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.

Meanwhile, Simon Kenton posted their closest victory since April 12th on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Newport Central Catholic 3-1. The Pioneers haven't had any issues with the Thoroughbreds recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

The team relied heavily on Tre Beach, who earned two runs and three stolen bases. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

Highlands' defeat dropped their record down to 17-7-2. As for Simon Kenton, their win bumped their record up to 13-7-3.
