Softball Game Preview: Lowry Buckaroos vs. Fernley Vaqueros

For the second straight game, Lowry will face off against Fernley. Lowry will head out to face off against Fernley at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lowry has five straight victories, Fernley has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Lowry is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Fernley, who was ranked 16th at the time (Lowry was ranked ninth). Lowry was the clear victor by a 12-5 margin over Fernley on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Buckaroos, who have now won eight matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Makinley Hislop was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Lowry let Dana Micone and Adalyn Entwistle run wild. Micone went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI, while Entwistle scored three runs while going 4-for-5. That's the most hits Entwistle has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalya Guizar, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three RBI.

Lowry kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive contests.

Lowry's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-3. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Fernley, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.

Both Lowry and Fernley just can't seem to miss. Lowry has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.1 hits per game. However, it's not like Fernley struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
