Baseball Game Preview: Haslett Vikings vs. DeWitt Panthers

The Haslett Vikings will face off against the DeWitt Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Haslett headed into their last contest having not scored more than two runs for four straight, but Northwest let them put that streak behind them. The Vikings put the hurt on the Mounties with a sharp 14-4 victory on Thursday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Vikings as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Haslett got a massive performance out of Ayden Smith, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Smith has become a key player for the Vikings: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-10 otherwise. Jacob Rienstra was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Haslett hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, DeWitt never let their opponents score on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over East Grand Rapids. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won five games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Haslett's victory bumped their record up to 7-10. As for DeWitt, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Haslett came out on top in a nail-biter against DeWitt in their previous meeting back in May of 2019, sneaking past 6-5. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
