Football Recap: Albany Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Rohan Edwards-Grant and Kahlil Beckett

There was early excitement for Albany after they claimed the first score on Saturday, but it was Colonie Central who ended up claiming the real prize. The Falcons took a 28-22 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wolfpack. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 266th, while the Wolfpack are ranked 122nd).

Albany's loss came despite strong showings from Kahlil Beckett and Rohan Edwards-Grant. Beckett rushed for 136 yards and one touchdown, while Edwards-Grant rushed for 40 yards and one score.

Leading Colonie Central to victory were Steven Thomas and Mason Grimes. Thomas threw for 147 yards and a pair of TDs, while Grimes rushed for 55 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Thomas' passing game has become a key predictor of the Wolfpack's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 0-3 otherwise.

Albany is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-3. As for Colonie Central, they moved to 3-3 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Albany will face off against Saratoga Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Beckett and Benjamin Coryea. As for Colonie Central, they will challenge Schenectady at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wolfpack will be up against the Patriots' rather soft defense (which has allowed 44.67 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
