League recap: Heartland tops Harvard to extend winning streak

D1 District 5 (8 Man) recap October 1, 2013

Heartland added to the longest winning streak in D1 District 5 (8 Man) this week by beating Harvard, 52-12. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Huskies.

Heartland moved up to 28 from 57 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Erik Wetjen's team was able to move up by beating the Cardinals 52-12.

The Huskies' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jordan Heinrichs threw for 76 yards and Tyler Brown had 39 yards receiving. On the ground Brown chipped in 239 yards.

Heartland's dynamic duo of Heinrichs and Brown proved tough for Harvard to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.

Brown was a passing and rushing force as the Huskies beat Sam Boshart's team.

Brown was a force in the backfield as Heartland defeated the Cardinals.

Christian Martell was a key player and the best on defense this week as Harvard lost to the Huskies. The 5-foot-10 senior.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, McCool Junction's Damon Kaliff and Alex Preslicka have proven to be a lethal combination. Kaliff has thrown for 473 yards this season, while Preslicka, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 15 catches for 393 yards. Heartland's Brown leads the league in rushing yards with 744.

One of D1 District 5 (8 Man)'s premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when the Mustangs and the Cardinals face off next week.

The Huskies are in first place, while Franklin is in third place.

Red Cloud lost to the Flyers 62-18 last week, the largest margin of any game.
