Baseball Game Preview: Covington Catholic Colonels vs. Highlands Bluebirds

The Covington Catholic Colonels will head out on the road to face off against the Highlands Bluebirds at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Saturday, Covington Catholic got the win against St. Henry by a conclusive 11-3. The Colonels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by seven runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, Highlands entered their tilt with Scott on Wednesday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They skirted past the Eagles 4-2.

Highlands got a great performance from Jake Robinson as he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). Robinson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brooks Hendrix, who went 1-for-3 with five stolen bases and three runs. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

Highlands' win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-5-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Covington Catholic, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-9.

Covington Catholic might still be hurting after the 11-4 defeat they got from Highlands when the teams last played back in March. Can the Colonels avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
