Basketball Game Preview: Chatfield Gophers vs. Zumbrota-Mazeppa Cougars

The Chatfield Gophers will face off against the Zumbrota-Mazeppa Cougars at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Chatfield is headed into Monday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Thursday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 73-66 to Cotter, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. While losing is never fun, the Gophers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 239th, while the Ramblers are ranked 96th).

Meanwhile, Zumbrota-Mazeppa made easy work of La Crescent on Friday and carried off a 58-35 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.

Chatfield's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Zumbrota-Mazeppa, their victory ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 7-10.

Chatfield came out on top in a nail-biter against Zumbrota-Mazeppa in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, sneaking past 75-72. Will Chatfield repeat their success, or does Zumbrota-Mazeppa have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
