Basketball Recap: Ella Robertson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sumrall over Columbia

Sumrall lost against Columbia back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Sumrall Bobcats fell 50-38 to the Columbia Wildcats. The Bobcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Several Bobcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ella Robertson, who posted 11 points and five assists. Talasha Harvey was another key player, putting up eight points and seven boards.

Columbia's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sariya Robinson led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Robinson has been hot, having posted nine or more boards the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jakira Brown, who put up 16 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Sumrall's loss dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Columbia, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-6.

Sumrall didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 49-46 defeat against Lawrence County on the 7th. Columbia has also already played their next contest, a 61-57 loss against Forrest County Agricultural on the 7th.
