Baseball Recap: St. Bernard's Starts Season with Victory at Home

St. Bernard took care of business in their home opener on Saturday. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Fortuna Huskies. The win continues a trend for the Crusaders in their matchups with the Huskies: they've now won three in a row.

Luke Brunton made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Brunton was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Tyler Hinrichs was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

Fortuna's loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-3.

Coincidentally, St. Bernard's and Fortuna will both be playing Arcata the next time they take the field. Fortuna will host Arcata at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, while St. Bernard's will play them later in the day, at 2:00 p.m.
