Ocean Springs has gone 9-1 against St. Martin recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Greyhounds will head out to face off against the Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Ocean Springs' defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 35-0 win over Harrison Central. Winning may never get old, but the Greyhounds sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ocean Springs to victory, but perhaps none more so than Solomon Baggett, who rushed for 86 yards and one TD on only five carries. Sharroid Whitehead was another key player, rushing for 51 yards and one score.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Ocean Springs was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 218 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 161 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Ocean Springs didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Ajay Benjamin, Jacolby Bailey, and Lucas Sinopoli picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, after only ten points in their last contest, St. Martin made sure to put some points up on the board against Harrison Central last Friday. The Yellow Jackets breezed past the Red Rebels to the tune of 50-13. The game was the first time the Yellow Jackets have beaten the Red Rebels on their field since October 7, 2016.
Ocean Springs better keep an eye on Seth Crockett. He was instrumental in St. Martin's win, rushing for 171 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.5 yards per carry. That's the most rushing touchdowns Crockett has posted since back in August. Dawsen Sullivan also helped out as he racked up 113 rushing yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to St. Martin's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Jayden Curtis, Jeremiah Matthews, and Jordon Riley, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Ocean Springs' record is now 8-1. As for St. Martin, their record now sits at 6-3.
Thursday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Ocean Springs has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 243.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like St. Martin struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 186.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Ocean Springs against St. Martin when the teams last played back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 42-15 victory. In that contest, the Greyhounds amassed a halftime lead of 28-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
