Monta Vista waltzed into their game on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They walked away with a 56-48 victory over the Cupertino Pioneers. Given the Matadors' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 405th, while the Pioneers are ranked 869th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

When it comes to explaining why Cupertino lost, don't look at Houma Yoshimochi. Despite the final result, he went 6-for-10 to rack up 14 points and five assists. That's the most assists Yoshimochi has posted since back in November of 2024. Nathan Crawford was another key player, putting up ten points and five boards.

Monta Vista pushed their record up to 16-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Cupertino, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-16.

Monta Vista didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 68-48 victory against Lynbrook on the 14th. As for Cupertino, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 62-43 loss against Fremont on the 14th.
