Baseball Recap: Los Lunas Wins Going Away Against Atrisco Heritage Academy

It was a proper cat-fight when Los Lunas duked it out with Atrisco Heritage Academy on Monday. The Tigers put the hurt on the Jaguars with a sharp 13-1 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 16-1 on April 1st.

Kaiden Reese made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Reese was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jonah Utash was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and four runs. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Jasiah Byers was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

Los Lunas was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Los Lunas has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Atrisco Heritage Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 14 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season.

Coincidentally, Los Lunas and Atrisco Heritage Academy will both be playing West Mesa the next time they take the field. The Tigers will head out to face the Mustangs at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Jaguars will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
