Preview: Latta Vikings vs. Green Sea Floyds Trojans

Latta is 8-0 against Green Sea Floyds since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Latta Vikings will be playing in front of their home fans against the Green Sea Floyds Trojans at 6:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Carolina (Latta is ranked 201st, while Green Sea Floyds is ranked 220th).

Latta can finally bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They came out on top against Lamar by a score of 44-37.

Latta got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Shawniza Bethea out in front who scored 19 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which Bethea has scored at least a third of Latta's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kardae Mcfadden, who scored ten points.

Green Sea Floyds suffered their biggest loss since December 1, 2023 on Friday. Their tough 48-23 loss to Lake View might stick with them for a while. Green Sea Floyds was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-11.

Despite the defeat, Green Sea Floyds saw an underclassman step up: Janyrah Mccleod scored six points along with five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Shantavia Hilliard, who scored four points.

Latta's victory bumped their record up to 4-8. As for Green Sea Floyds, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Latta have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 32.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Green Sea Floyds, though, as they've been averaging only 26.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Everything came up roses for Latta against Green Sea Floyds in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 46-11 victory. With Latta ahead 30-7 at the half, the game was all but over already.
