Baseball Recap: Make It Seven in a Row for Burlington Christian Academy

Burlington Christian Academy proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by nine) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Wake Christian Academy Bulldogs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Royals have posted since February 25th.

Cooper Kelly made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Kelly wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lofton Gonzalez, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

The victory was the seventh in a row for Burlington Christian Academy, bringing their record up to 15-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Wake Christian Academy, they moved to 14-5 with that defeat, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Burlington Christian Academy and Wake Christian Academy should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Royals (ranked 33rd) will meet Village Christian Academy (ranked 161st) at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Wake Christian Academy will face off against Durham Academy at 5:00 p.m. on the 28th with a big rank advantage (114 vs. 362).
