Softball Recap: Cerritos Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Cerritos barely beat Pioneer the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Dons put the hurt on the Titans with a sharp 16-2 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Dons, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Jade Hernandez was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ava Ceron was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Daphne Linsangan, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Cerritos always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win (which was Cerritos' fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-5. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Pioneer, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Cerritos is set to take on their familiar foe Glenn at 3:15 p.m. on the 14th. Meanwhile, Pioneer will face off against rival Oxford Academy at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
