Basketball Recap: South Kingstown Takes a Loss

South Kingstown's last matchup with Portsmouth could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's match on Monday. The South Kingstown Rebels were dealt a 54-21 loss at the hands of the Portsmouth Patriots. The Rebels lost against the Patriots in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 48-45 score last time.

Portsmouth found their leader in sophomore Stella Orr, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten boards. The dominant performance also gave Orr a new career-high in steals (five). Another player making a difference was Violet Silvia, who posted eight points along with six assists and five steals.

South Kingstown has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season. As for Portsmouth, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-5.

Coming up, South Kingstown will challenge Chariho at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Portsmouth, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against St. Mary Academy-Bay View at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in St. Mary Academy-Bay View's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three matches.
