Softball Game Preview: Chester Yellowjackets vs. Colmesneil Bulldogs

For the first time this season, Chester will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Monday. They will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Colmesneil Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Chester picked up another tournament win on Saturday. They walked away with an 8-5 win over Cayuga.

Allie Ogden looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, Lily Read and Marae Pounds did most of the damage at the plate: Read scored a run while going 1-for-1, while Pounds went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. What's more, Read posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Cintrano, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.

Chester hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most three strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Colmesneil had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They had just enough and edged out Grapeland 7-6 on Saturday.

Chester's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Colmesneil, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.

Chester might still be hurting after the 13-0 defeat they got from Colmesneil in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Chester avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
