The Frederick Golden Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bear Creek Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Frederick will be strutting in after a win while Bear Creek will be coming in after a loss.
Frederick took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Greeley West 40-6. With the Golden Eagles ahead 40-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Sonny Delpizzo continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 119 yards and three TDs on only five carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 56 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Frederick was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 320 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Bear Creek was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 49-14 loss at the hands of Dakota Ridge. The Bears were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-7.
Frederick will have to keep a close watch on Riley Wilson and Kamari May, a pair of players who had a big impact on Bear Creek's prior game. Wilson rushed for 68 yards and one score, while May picked up 80 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Even if they lost, Bear Creek's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Alexander Greer, Jonah Hernandez, and Izayah Medina, who each picked up one sack apiece. Bear Creek got some further help from Greer: he picked up a sack and made ten total tackles.
Frederick pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.8 points over those games. As for Bear Creek, their record now sits at 6-4.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Frederick has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 211.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Bear Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 185.4 rushing yards.
