Basketball Recap: Newton Comes Up Short

Newton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 16th straight defeat. They took a 46-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Goddard Lions. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 45-25 back in January.

Goddard's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Marayah Coleman, who went 5-for-10 on her way to 13 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists. That's the most assists Coleman has posted since back in December of 2024. Sariah Potter was another key player, going 5-for-10 en route to 12 points and eight boards.

Newton's loss dropped their record down to 0-16. As for Goddard, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-11.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newton will welcome Hutchinson at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Goddard, they will take on Salina Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
