Basketball Recap: Shaelyn Hayes' Big Game Can't Quite Lead White Knoll over Dutch Fork

White Knoll lost against Dutch Fork back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The White Knoll Timberwolves fell to the Dutch Fork Silver Foxes 47-42. While losing is never fun, the Timberwolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 36th, while the Silver Foxes are ranked fourth).

Several Timberwolves players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Shaelyn Hayes, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Hayes has been hot recently, having also posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. Sidney White was another key player, putting up 12 points and five steals.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Dutch Fork to victory, but perhaps none more so than Michaela Fairwell, who posted 19 points along with six boards and three blocks. Those three blocks gave Fairwell a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Claire Howard, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds.

White Knoll's loss dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Dutch Fork, they pushed their record up to 13-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home.

White Knoll will take on Irmo at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Dutch Fork, they will square off against Lexington at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lexington will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Dutch Fork surely won't give up without a fight.
