The Caston Comets will face off against the Logansport Berries at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Caston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Caston had taken Manchester down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Tuesday. The Comets fell just short of the Squires by a score of 4-3.
Caston saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Natalie Warner, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one triple, and one run.
Meanwhile, Logansport had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Wildkats with a sharp 12-2 victory. The Berries might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by eight runs or more this season.
Bella Nicoles was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Natalee Packard was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two triples, two RBI, and one run.
Logansport always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive contests.
Logansport pushed their record up to 14-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Caston, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-11.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Caston hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Logansport struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
