Baseball Recap: Avon Continues Road Dominance on Thursday

Avon lost to Berea-Midpark back in April, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Eagles walked away with a 5-1 win over the Titans. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Avon got a great performance from Matt Sheldon as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Sheldon also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Eagles are 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-7 otherwise.

At the plate, Mateus Porter was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Robby Sykora, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Avon pushed their record up to 7-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Berea-Midpark, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.

Avon will host Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Eagles 3.9, the Lions 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Berea-Midpark, they will head out on the road to take on Olmsted Falls at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
