Basketball Recap: Kamarion Larry Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat D.H. Conley

On Saturday, the Martin County Gators earned a 66-57 win over the D.H. Conley Vikings. Given the Gators' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 205th, while the Vikings are ranked 444th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Martin County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kamarion Larry, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Matthewson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards.

Martin County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Samari Cabell, who went 6 of 8 on his way to 16 points in addition to eight boards and five steals. Cabell is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Cayden Hill, who went 7 of 8 on his way to 16 points and five rebounds.

Martin County is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.8 points per game. As for D.H. Conley, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Martin County will challenge Pamlico County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Martin County's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Pamlico County has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. As for D.H. Conley, they will take on Havelock at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Havelock knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully D.H. Conley likes a good challenge.
