Basketball Recap: Legend Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Kale Sparks and Carson Flowers

Legend was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 68-65 heartbreaker at the hands of the Highlands Ranch Falcons. The Titans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Falcons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Legend had strong showings from Carson Flowers, who went 5-for-11 en route to 13 points and six boards, and Kale Sparks, who went 8-for-12 to rack up 17 points and six rebounds. Flowers is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last four games he's played. Tyler Houlberg was another key player, putting up ten points.

Even though they lost, Legend was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Highlands Ranch only racked up nine assists.

Highlands Ranch's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Luke Bakken led the charge by going 8-for-10 on his way to 18 points. What's more, Bakken also posted a 80% shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mason Lane, who went 6-for-13 en route to 14 points and seven boards.

Legend's loss dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Highlands Ranch, they pushed their record up to 10-12 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Legend will face off against Ponderosa at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Legend is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.2 points per game this season. As for Highlands Ranch, they will challenge ThunderRidge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. ThunderRidge knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten matches -- so hopefully Highlands Ranch likes a good challenge.
