Softball Recap: Thursday's Victory Is Battle Ground Academy's Fourth in Last Five Outings

Battle Ground Academy won against Lawson last Tuesday with 17 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Wildcats beat the Columbia Academy Bulldogs by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 17-2. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 7-4 loss the last time these two teams met.

Khloe Burton made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.

In other batting news, Battle Ground Academy let Ellery Baisden and Leelee Fernandez run wild. Baisden scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Fernandez scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Baisden a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Lauren Atkins, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Battle Ground Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Columbia Academy only posted an OBP of .238.

Battle Ground Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. As for Columbia Academy, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 7-3.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Battle Ground Academy will take on rival Grace Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Columbia Academy is set to challenge their familiar foe Middle Tennessee Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
