Football Recap: King's Academy Lions vs. Saint Andrew's Scots
King's Academy kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They took a 28-24 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Saint Andrew's Scots. The Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Scots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.
Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tyce Porcher, who picked up 120 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Porcher got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 70 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Dj Beneby, who threw for 219 yards and three TDs.
Saint Andrew's was led to victory by Wesley Winn and Remi DeOrsey. Winn picked up 191 receiving yards and one score, while DeOrsey rushed for 49 yards and three touchdowns. Winn also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making three total tackles and defending two passes. Jack Williams was another key player, having thrown for 289 yards and onetouchdown.
Coming up, King's Academy will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Westwood at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Saint Andrew's, they will take on St. John Paul II Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Scots' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
