Football Game Preview: Martinsville Artesians vs. Charlestown Pirates

Two dominant backs in Lucas Dewey and Jovon Morris are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Martinsville Artesians will welcome the Charlestown Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Martinsville is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They secured a 35-31 W over Greenwood. The Artesians haven't had any issues with the Woodmen recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Martinsville can attribute much of their success to Chase Davis, who threw for 163 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Charlestown). They blew past Silver Creek 51-26 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won four games by 20 points or more so far this season.

Charlestown's win came from a few key players Martinsville will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Aj Todd, who rushed for 84 yards and one score, and also picked up 30 receiving yards. Christian Grayson was another key signal caller, throwing for 203 yards on only 19 passes.

Martinsville's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Charlestown, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.

Everything came up roses for Martinsville against Charlestown in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 56-0 victory. Will the Artesians repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
