Baseball Recap: Great Bend Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Great Bend ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They beat the Liberal Redskins by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 3-2. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Redskins recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Jaxon Wondra made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Great Bend is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Wondra was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Rafael Chavez was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Trenton Kern was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Great Bend's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Liberal, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-7.

Coming up, Great Bend is taking a road trip to face off against Hays on Tuesday. As for Liberal, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Garden City at 6:00 p.m. on the 21st.
