Softball Recap: Santa Rosa Comes Up Short

Santa Rosa extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 7-8 in the process. They lost 21-3 to the Raton Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-2 on Friday.

Santa Rosa saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Angelina Silva, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Kaidyn Chavez was another, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

As for Raton, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-9 record this season. The result was nothing new for Raton, who have now won eight games by 15 runs or more so far this season.

On Raton's side, Jaylynn Quintana was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Quintana has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Brooklyn Marquez was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jennifer Mattorano, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Coming up, Santa Rosa will look to defend their home field on Monday against Tucumcari at 4:00 p.m. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rattlers have averaged an impressive 11 runs per game this season. As for Raton, they will square off against Clayton at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
