Basketball Recap: Quitman's Loss Ends 11-Game Winning Streak at Home

Quitman has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 50-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Laurel Golden Tornadoes on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 54th, while the Golden Tornadoes are ranked ninth).

AIYANNA DEAR and JAHYLA DUBOSE certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. DEAR posted 15 points, while DUBOSE earned 13 points.

Laurel got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Zy Evans out in front who went 5 of 9 on her way to 20 points and three steals. That's the most points Evans has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayllis Walker, who went 6 of 9 on her way to 15 points and eight rebounds.

Quitman's loss ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-4. As for Laurel, they pushed their record up to 13-1 with the victory, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Quitman Panthers face off against the Noxubee County Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Laurel, they will venture away from home to face off against Bay Springs on Friday. Bay Springs will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Laurel surely won't give up without a fight.
