Softball Recap: Independence Wins Going Away Against Yerba Buena

Independence barely beat Yerba Buena the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Independence put the hurt on Yerba Buena with a sharp 20-5 victory on Friday. 20 seems to be a good number for the 76ers as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Independence let Mackenzy Sauao and Joscelyn Santa Cruz run wild. Sauao scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Santa Cruz scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those three runs gave Santa Cruz a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ava Sanchez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Independence was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in four consecutive games.

Independence's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Yerba Buena, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
