Softball Recap: Verona's Loss Ends Eight-Game Winning Streak at Home

Verona dropped their record down to 9-3 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They came up short against the Middleton Cardinals, falling 9-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Wildcats have suffered since April 26, 2024.

As for Middleton, the victory was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.

For Middleton's part, Megan Button was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Button has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Middleton let Macey Blazek and Hailey Stroede run wild. Blazek went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Stroede went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double. Kylie Klock was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Verona and Middleton should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Wisconsin Rankings. The Wildcats (ranked 33rd) will meet Sun Prairie West (ranked 166th) at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Middleton will challenge Janesville Craig at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (4 vs. 199).
