Alamogordo has won three straight games at home, while Las Cruces has won three straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. The Tigers will host the Bulldawgs at 5:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Alamogordo is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Mayfield, who was ranked third at the time (Alamogordo was ranked seventh). The Tigers put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 11-2 win on Thursday. That nine run margin sets a new team best for the Tigers this season.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Las Cruces and Organ Mountain meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Bulldawgs were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Knights. Considering the Bulldawgs have won 11 contests by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Kaia Renteria was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Erica Silva was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-4. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Cami Munda, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
Las Cruces always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Organ Mountain only posted an OBP of .263.
Las Cruces is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. As for Alamogordo, their win bumped their record up to 12-8.
Alamogordo came out on top in a nail-biter against Las Cruces in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Bulldawgs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
