The Newberry Panthers will face off against the Interlachen Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Newberry is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Newberry is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing P.K. Yonge: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Newberry blew P.K. Yonge out of the water with a 72-34 final score. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 20 points or more this season.
Newberry's win on Thursday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jacob Green, who posted 13 points. Henry Matthias was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.
Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Interlachen had no trouble coming through when it counted. They strolled past Baldwin with points to spare on Monday, taking the game 61-47.
Newberry better keep an eye on Kemontae Nixon. He was instrumental in Interlachen's win, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. Nixon has been hot recently, having posted 11 or more boards the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Devon Williams, who went 6 for 11 en route to 13 points.
Interlachen smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in seven consecutive contests.
Newberry's win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-0. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.6 points per game. As for Interlachen, their victory bumped their record up to 12-13.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Newberry and Interlachen are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Newberry hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 67.4 points per game. However, it's not like Interlachen struggles in that department as they've been averaging 59.8 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Newberry didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Interlachen in their previous matchup back in February of 2021, but they still walked away with a 69-65 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Newberry since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
