Softball Game Preview: Allegan Tigers vs. Watervliet Panthers

The Allegan Tigers will square off against the Watervliet Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Allegan's hitters haven't had much luck over their past four games, but Thursday's matchup will give them a chance to turn things around.

Allegan fell victim to South Haven and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 20-0 to the Rams.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Watervliet). They blew past Fennville 22-6 on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Blackhawks: they've now won four in a row.

Leila Liberto-Taylor and Akira Hill did most of the damage at the plate: Liberto-Taylor scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3, while Hill scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Ava Thmas, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

They weren't the only one making solid contact: Watervliet kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fennville only managed nine hits.

Watervliet's win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average this season. As for Allegan, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
