Palmetto has gone a perfect 6-0 against Carolina Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Trojans at 5:00 p.m.
Palmetto is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 11 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Crescent on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 2-1.
Meanwhile, Carolina Academy can bid farewell to their 15-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Greenville Tech Charter 22-21. The Trojans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Jayden Barton made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and six unearned) runs off six hits. Barton was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Carolina Academy let Aidan Alston and Christian Bedolla run wild. Alston got on base in three of his six plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double, while Bedolla got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three RBI gave Alston a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mason Mullinax, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs.
Carolina Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .522. They are 4-2 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Palmetto has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That lines up perfectly with their 6-18 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 1.33 runs. As for Carolina Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 4-16.
Everything went Palmetto's way against Carolina Academy in their previous matchup on Thursday, as Palmetto made off with an 11-0 win. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
